On Monday, Duchess Kate emerged from a London's Peter Jones store -- part of the John Lewis home goods chain -- to pick up some essential items for her new home at Kensington Palace.

After arriving via chauffeured car, Prince William's wife, 29, went into the emporium solo, where she stocked up on pillows, bed linen, cutlery and other kitchen items, and checked out the carpets.

Adds an observer of the royal, clad in jeans, flats and a peasant top with her hair down: "She looked like any other newlywed [outfitting] her new home!"
A favorite of Kate and her sister Pippa Middleton, the John Lewis chain is a typical, high-quality home goods chain that twentysomethingk middle-class brides often include on their wedding registries.

In July, a source confirmed to Us that Kate purchased $1458 worth of air fresheners and candles designed by Kelly Hopper for their new London home.
"Kate is used to a more modern, relaxed environment," a pal told the Daily Mail. "She felt [Kensington] had an overriding musty, damp smell, and ordered a six-month supply of her favorite products to override this. She?s also thrown pillows around to make it look more minimalist-chic and less fuddy-duddy. William was happy to go with the flow."
Designer Hoppen has also been tapped to redesign and modernize the pair's new quarters.
