Lebanese, French military officials discuss cooperation

BEIRUT: French and Lebanese military officials met Friday to discuss bilateral military cooperation.

Army Commander General Jean Kahwagi received Gen. Bertrand Ract-Madoux, the commander of his country?s ground forces, and Brig. Gen. Olivier Pougin de la Maisonneuve, the chief of staff of UNIFIL peacekeeping forces in Yarze in Baabda.

The military leaders discussed the ways of increasing cooperation between the French and Lebanese militaries, as well as the role of the French in UNIFIL.

The French have decided to keep their force of around 1,300 UNIFIL troops in the country after a recent bombing that targeted French peacekeepers.?
