Remains of the Day: Chrome Update Brings Better Battery Life, Do Not Track

Remains of the Day: Chrome Update Brings Better Battery Life, Do Not TrackGoogle Chrome gets another update, you can now Skype with your Live Messenger contacts, Apple's Lightning-to-micro USB adapter goes on sale, and Send to Kindle comes to Firefox.

  • Longer battery life and easier website permissions Google Chrome's latest stable release (Version 23) brings GPU-accelerated video decoding to Windows users, allowing for better battery life. Also notable is the addition of "do not track" requests and better management of website permissions. As usual, Chrome auto-updates, so all these features will be in place when you next boot up Chrome. [Google Chrome Blog]
  • Talk to your Messenger Contacts on Skype Windows Live Messenger's Skype integration continues. All current Live Messengers can now now login to Skype and use it with all of their Live Messenger contacts. If you already use both services, you can now merge the two into your Microsoft account. • Apple's Lightning to Micro USB adapter now available in US Apple's US store now has adapters on sale that allow you to charge Lightning devices with Micro USB cables. They'll cost you $19. [The Verge]
  • Send to Kindle for Mozilla FirefoxAmazon has brought its Send to Kindle browser extension to Firefox. Firefox users can now send web content over to their eReaders with one click.
  • Steam for Linux now available to beta testers Valve has (rather quickly) selected the first round of beta testers for the Linux version of its Steam digital distribution service. The company had started taking applications a few weeks ago, and have reported that at least 24 games are already LInux compatible. [Geek.com]
