Last-minute preparations are underway for Sydney's Twilight Parade, the traffic-stopping highlight of the city's Lunar New Year celebrations.

With 3,500 performers and dozens of floats, this year's Snake-themed show features a giant bike-powered rattlesnake, dancing cacti and a life-sized game of snakes and ladders.

Creative Director Gill Minervini says Korean and Vietnamese performers will join the traditionally Chinese festivities.?

"What we're really aiming to do is to find connecting points across a range of cultures," she says.

She says the parade will hold a few surprises.

Local students from City of Sydney public schools will also be taking part.
