Articles 20VN | Fix Slow Computer - Is There A Way I Can Make My ...

Fixing slow computer problems involves tracking down the source of the bottleneck slowing the computer and then taking the appropriate steps to eliminate it. First, it must be determined whether the problem is the computer itself, or the Windows operating system. Until this is determined, trying to make your computer faster is all guesswork. In this article, we will discuss how to pinpoint the problem slowing down your computer.

Most times, a computer slows down because of problems that have crept up inside the operating system that is installed on the computer. Rarely, will a computer become slow because one of the parts inside the computer has gone bad. There is no way to definitively tell if the problem slowing the computer is a Windows problem or a computer problem without using very sophisticated and expensive equipment.

Because of this, the best course of action to take is to make sure nothing is wrong with your operating system. Then, once you are sure the operating system is working 100% efficiently, you can proceed to troubleshoot the computer mainframe. However, 99.9% of the time you'll find the problem that is making the computer slow will be a problem with the operating system.

Eliminate Spyware and Viruses

First, make sure the computer does not have any viruses or spyware installed on it. The only way you can find out for sure if your computer is free of these things is to run a virus cleaner and a spyware cleaner. Fortunately, many of the newer programs geared to take care of spyware also will detect and erase viruses. Also fortunately, most new virus cleaners also detect and eliminate spyware.

The bottom line is, run your virus and spyware program or programs to make absolutely sure all parasites are eliminated from your computer files. Any parasites will plug up your operating system and cause your computer to run slowly.

Clean Registry Files

Once this is done, the next thing to do is run a registry cleaner. Make sure the registry cleaner you use is dependable and also make sure it is up to date. It is important to run a registry cleaner because unclean, or corrupt registry files will make a computer run very poorly. In fact, registry corruption is behind computers that have lost their speed more than any other potential operating system problem. Therefore, the importance of keeping your Windows operating system's registry clean cannot be overstated.

What if it is the Computer?

On rare occasions, there are problems with the computer itself that will make it run slowly. This is true even if the operating system is working to the best of its ability. In such a case, it is time to bring the computer to a repair shop where a technician can check the function of the motherboard, the CPU and the power supply.

However, before you do this make sure your CPU fan is running fast and freely and there are no noises coming from your power supply. Finally do your best to blow all the dust off of the components and you've done all you can do to the computer itself unless you are very familiar with computer technology.

Still, most slow computer problems are caused by Windows operating systems problems and most of these problems are caused by registry corruption.
