NFL roundup: RG3 has date to have knee examined

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will have his surgically-repaired knee examined by Dr. James Andrews this week and Andrews will decide whether or not to clear him for training camp, the Washington Post reported.

Griffin was injured during the playoffs in January and had surgery on his ACL. Andrews has been saying throughout the offseason that Griffin is ahead of schedule and should be ready for the start of this season.

Griffin participated in offseason workouts, has been running at full speed and cutting, and consistently saying his knee feels great.

If Andrews is not satisfied with how Griffin's knee responds, the Redskins could place him on the physically-unable-to-perform list. Kirk Cousins is next on the Redskins' depth chart at quarterback.

---The Miami Dolphins placed rookie defensive end Dion Jordan on the nonfootball injury list. Jordan, the No. 3 overall pick in the April draft, is sitting out the start of training camp because his surgically repaired right shoulder is not fully healed.

Jordan, who starred at Oregon, wore uniform No. 95 during the first practice Sunday but watched from the sideline. It is not clear how long he will be out.

Jordan can join the active roster any time before the regular season. If he is not activated by then, he must remain out for the first six weeks of the season.

---Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey won't comment about a photo showing him and his twin brother wearing caps that read "Free Hernandez."

Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey apologized last week for wearing the cap, which showed support for former New England Patriots wide receiver Aaron Hernandez, who is accused of killing semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.

Hernandez and the Pounceys were teammates at the University of Florida.
